Turkey – Festival adds to the wait

Although there are reports that some suppliers to European tanners are now starting to return to a closer way of normal life, with existing contracts starting to be delivered and new contracts booked, the same cannot be said for Turkey. One supplier reports that nearly all tanneries are closed, not because of the virus, but to observe the Ramadan season and thereafter the festival of Eid holidays, meaning that nothing will restart until the end of May, for which they hold their fingers crossed that some form of normality can return to the industry. It could also be the case that Turkish tanneries and suppliers are by then playing catch up, as most of Europe will have been back to some form of working for the best part of a month.
