Spain – any gains given back

Published: 15 May, 2019

The increase of prices observed over the previous two rounds all but disappeared in the auctions held in the country across the end of April and early May. The downturn hit the bull/heifer type of hides the most, erasing all the previous gains. Cowhides also lost some ground, but in a more measured fashion.

The loss of value of the bull/heifer type of hides were most evident in Burgos and Salamanca, where the price fell in the region of €4/hide compared to the previous auction, while in Valladolid it was approximately €1.50/hide. As for cowhides, the change was in the range of €0-2/hide, with unchanged prices in Salamanca and the highest fall in Valladolid.

In the ovine skins market, the price of baby lambskins remained at the same level as the prior two months, at €1.25/pce. With the winter season behind shoulders, merinosentered their seasonal reduction cycle, with entrefinosfollowing suit. In both cases the fall was €1.15-1.20/pce against the previous level.
