South African hide prices on a downward trend
Published: 05 Dec, 2018
After a lull in price declines and even some recovery throughout October and early November, the green hide prices went back to a downward trend in the second half of the current month. New lows in recent history were established and, at R$4.15/kg the drop since the beginning of the year now stands at 64%. It is quite possible that the announcement of reduced intake from the large German tanner Bader, which has a significant presence through a subsidiary, has reached the South African hide trade. Moreover, the rock-bottom price of hides elsewhere, including the whole of South America, could not but drive local prices further down for them to remain competitive. Click here for more information.
