Small skin update from Australia
Published: 09 Aug, 2017
The sheepskin market remains on a firm footing, as per recent reporting. Prices at the abattoir gate are largely unchanged, besides the usual differences depending on size, wool length and quality. New season lambs are steadily coming forward, and their numbers in slaughterhouses are expected to gradually increase in the coming weeks. An estimate from a local trader, is that they currently make up around 30% of the total throughput, and mainly from New South Wales abattoirs.
Overseas markets remain generally quiet, but there is demand for some skin types, on top of which merinos mainly from Chinese customers.
