Good demand from Asian tanners for U.S. hides

Published: 09 Aug, 2017

For raw hides, demand was bolstered the leading Asian buyers, China and South Korea, together accounting for 86% of the 520,000 hides sold. The former absorbed close to 340,000 hides, and the latter about 108,000 hides, after several weeks of subdued performance. Probably taking advantage of weak prices, high inventories and a lack of competition from other tanners who are on their holidays.

However, in the wet-blue business, it seems that the Italians were literally brought back from their holidays to purchase almost 68,000 pieces, while 39,000 pieces, mostly grain splits, went to Mexico, giving a weekly total of 170,000 hides sold.
