Brazilian hide price index falls again

Published: 09 Aug, 2017

In the week 31 of the year, the CICB indicator of the average raw hides price slid another R$0.07/kg, reaching a new low in recent history. The depressed raw hide prices continues to provide the only good news for Brazilian tanners, keeping them competitive in the international arena against the sizable falls seen elsewhere, mainly the US. This will help to neutralise the recent appreciation of the real against the US$, thus leaving exporters with enough room to adjust prices without compromising profitability.
