Australia – Lower quality hides have no value

It has been reported that some of the smaller slaughterhouses are being informed by hide processors and collectors that they can no longer pay for the lower weight range hides, particularly the lighter cowhides. This is caused by the end price the hides are sold to tanners at, being so low that it no longer covers their overheads. This is a scenario many suppliers from around the world are facing on lighter weight cowhides. Prices remain under pressure on all selections: however, there is still demand for the larger and more spready hides. Slaughter remains at decent levels, and this is expected to continue through June. To read more click here.
