Heavier cattle weights are showing stronger demand than those which are lighter. Most small skins are being shipped salted.

The new year has started with a whimper rather than a bang. After the fall in hide prices during the back end of 2017, some beef processors felt that the market was due a rebound and asked for higher prices, but to no avail. 

Kazakhstan is reported to have temporarily suspended exports of raw cattle hides.

Brazilian hide prices remained relatively stable at the beginning of 2018

German hide markets opens 2018 showing mixed fortunes for traders. Good demand from Italy but China remains slow. 

Sale prices of lighter weights and lower grades of Australian origin are expected to remain weak during the early weeks of 2018.
